"Umar Farooq Tariq Lutfi was born in Karachi, Sindh, on September 20, 1951. He is a professional footballer as well as a coach in Pakistan. He also works at Sui Southern Gas as a manager. He worked with Pakistan Airlines for the majority of his working life. He was also the interim manager of the Pakistan national football team in 2011."

Lutfi has worked with both the men's and women's national teams as a manager. He was recruited as the coach of the Portugal team for the Socca World Cup.
